Ch. 14

Spyro turned around and looked back to see his companions staring at him awkardly. "Cynder", he called out his mate.

She quickly wiped away her tears as she walked past Zachariah and towards her mate. " Mom? Dad?  This is my mate Cynder." A surprised look splashed upon their faces as Spyro said those words.

Their adoptive son told them about their adventures, and the hardships they both endured together. Their love for each other grew evermore so greatly with the time they spent with each other. As Spyro finished tell them about Cynder, Flash said, "...well she may not be a dragonfly, but at least you're happy.

"Are you kidding me? I finally have a  daughter!!!", Nina said with joy. She flew over to Cynder and wrapped her little body around the dragoness' forehead.

"Wow, it feels nice to actually be loved.", Cynder said.

Nina looked around the side and saw the larger dragon behind them. "Who is your friend hunny?", She said to Spyro.

"Oh Mom, Dad, This is Zachariah, he's-"

Sparx cut him off,"Spyro's real brother." He said with a hint of jealousy.

They all gazed at Zachariah, then back towards Spyro. They were expecting an explanation from the purple dragon. Before Spyro had a chance to say anything, his elder half-brother came forward.

"My name is Zachariah, I am Spyro's half brother. We both came from the same father, but that's not the case here. The reason why Spyro is who he is, is because of his real family right here," He sat on his haunches in front of the dragonflies. "Anybody can become a mother or father. But it takes responsible and loving people to become a mom and a dad." Sparx lowered his head in sadness. "And Sparx, I'm not trying to take your brother away from you. You two have been together forever, and I would never tear apart the bond you two share. I'd just hope that you'd also consider me a brother as I do with you."

Sparx remained silent, but nodded in approval.

They spoke for awhile longer until Zachariah advised them that they must move on.

"Sparx?," Zachariah called, "Care to come with us on another journey?"

It didn't take him, but a moment to say, " Of course, you think that I'm gonna let my brothers go off and have another adventure without me?!"

"Um Zachariah?" Flash said. The red dragon turned around towards the blue dragonfly. "Can you please promise us that you would watch over Spyro and Sparx? Their mother and I worry about them-"

He cut him off,"I will watch them like a hawk, I promise. I will die before I let anything happen. No harm shall come to them."

The dragonfly let out a sigh of relief. Both dragonflies waved goodbye to them as they took to the skies and flew away.

They flew past the swamplands, past the forests, following along the Silver River. The river finally came to an end as it connected to the ocean.

Finally they saw in the distance a small strip of lands, chained together by the water that surrounded them. They flew closer until they landed on a sandy beach. The sand was white like sugar, surrounding the exterior of the island, like a white ring. In front of them was a large cave that was emitting a glowing blue light. They ventured on, walking through the dark caverns, their only light source were glowing crystals growing from the Celestial Cave walls, as well as the golden light coming from Sparx.

"Why can't we just fly straight there?", Cynder asked.

"There is ancient magic, that is preventing us from just flying in there. I'm afraid, we must continue going the long way.", Zachariah said.

Eventually they made it to the end of the caves, as they exited the cave and entered outside. Dusk was approaching, the sun was setting, and everyone was tired.

It was short walk to the temple, they entered inside what seemed to be an atrium. In front of them was a cobble stone path. Large erected marble walls surrounded the courtyard. Growing along them were the same blue crystals from the Celestial Caves.

Zachariah stopped in his tracks. "Spyro, I'm afraid you, Cynder, and Sparx must go on without me."

"Why? What's wrong?", his brother asked.

"I...I just can't. I'm not ready to see him just yet." His voice was trembling.

Spyro felt determined to get an answer from him and to continue pressing him on the subject, until he saw tears forming in his eyes, his paws were shaking. "Okay, then.", Spyro said with a undertanding tone.

The three of them continued on, leaving their forth companion to himself, as they heard him cry softly.

Spyro, Sparx, and Cynder walked past more of the stone murals depicting epic battles that occurred through the ages. At the end of the corridor was a large archway with blue runes, that were enscribed upon it. Cynder was amazed by the sight of the Chronicler's Lair. Her emerald eyes never laid on such marvel. The lair was a spacious circular room filled with books, more glowing blue inscriptions were riddled across the room. Vials of strange liquids, and lit candles were resting on the shelves. In the middle of the lair was an enormous hourglass. A large desk cluttered with quils, papers, and scrolls was set aside.

It felt so long, since Spyro last visited the chronicler's lair. He felt little guiltly for abandoning the last Chronicler, on such bitter terms. He only thought to do what was best for Spyro and the fate of the world.

"I was wondering when you three would arrive.", said a familiar voice.

Emerging from behind the hourglass, was Ignitus. His newly teal scales matched the hue of the room, he looked odd, to Spyro, with his cape and crystal necklace.

"Ignitus!!!!", Spyro ran out and hugged him tightly.

"I missed you so much, young dragon.", he said.

"I missed you too...father.", Spyro said.

Ignitus' eyes widened. He looked down upon his second born son with an expression of relief and sadness. "I am really glad that you finally know the truth. It was such a heavy burden to hold in my heart, I did not wish to keep from you, my son. The guardian's and I didn't want you to become off focused from your tasks. I longed to reveal the truth to you who I was. But, if anything ever happened to me, I didn't want you to feel too distraught. I wanted your safety above all else, but I never left you my son. I regret that I could not give you the love and care a father should have. As Infernacus as my witness, I know I shall pay the price in the afterlife" Ignitus looked up to see Cynder and Sparx were wait patiently waiting for themselves to be acknowledged. "I am glad that you're both here."

A puzzled look struck his face. "Not everybody is accounted for.", Ignitus said with a questioning voice.

"I'm here!", said an annoyed voice.

Everyone turned around to see Zachariah staring back at them. "Hello father.", Zachariah said. Spyro was glad, that his brother had arrived. He was also very worried, but glad still all the same.

"Hello Zachariah.", Ignitus said with a upsetting tone.

Zachariah let out a soft, but hardy grunt in acknowledgement.

Sadness fell upon Ignitus. "I called you here, because I fear that I have some terribly disturbing news. I'm afraid that Malefor is still alive." A book was pulled itself out a shelf, and floated in front of Ignitus. Everyone gathered closer to here what he had to say.

The book was purple and gold encrested, Spyro recognized it easily, it was his book that detailed his entire life. "Malefor is imprisoned, but not permanently. There is a way for us to stop him from returning, if we act quickly." The purple book closed and floated back towards it's place, as another book levitated to them. "Legend foretells that the elements have been harnessed at some point in time and taken shape in the form of four crystals. Much like the ones Cynder used to release Malefor from convexity, except these crystal's energy is tenfold. They were scattered in various places around the dragon realms. However, I don't know where they all are, but I do know of where one is."

He looked at Zachariah. "The first is the Earth crystal...It's in the dragon city of Onyx."

"What?", Zachariah said with surprise. "Where?"

"I do not know it's precise location, But the ruler, King Evander may know. However, it may be difficult aquireing aid from him."

"Not necessarily, I know that Evander will help for sure." Everyone gave him puzzled stares to the crimson dragon. "What? I am the Vanguard of Onyx. He may be more than willing to help us. Kindle is also there."

"Really?", Ignitus asked. "How is she?"

"Why don't you go and ask her?", he said with a angry tone.

Ignitus grew even more depressed, "I cannot."

"Figures...", Silence filled the room for a while.

"Alright enough of this", Zachariah scratched the base of his scalp, through his orange hair, and sighed. "Ignitus, even if we find this crystal, how in blazes are we supposed to find the others?"

An all too familiar smile appeared upon Ignitus' face. "I'm glad you asked, Zachariah."

"Uh oh!", said Sparx. "I hate it when he says that..."
I must confess, this chapter has been done for awhile now. But, was too lazy to post this until now. XD Plus, I don't think my recent addiction to Mass Effect 3 helped out at all. Or maybe it will hmm?....

----------

Sparx has now joined the group!!! What? Did you really think I would leave him out of the story?

Zachariah is just a mess, he is filed with strong emotions, to his father. I sense that there will be future hostility towards friends and family.

I had to replay The Eternal Night just to get a better sense of describing the layout of the chronicler's lair.

But now the plot is now revealed. The mission is clear! Find the Elemental crystals and finish off Malefor and end this once and for all!

Next Chapter: More friends join our group of heroes and find out who is King Evander?
